The history...
In 1989 three leaders (Tom Hall, Veryl Chihak, Roger Rench) from the Brooklyn Center,MN Bible Study Fellowship(BSF) class enjoyed a weekend of golf at Breezy Point Resort in Brainerd,MN. The next summer Tom, Veryl and Tom's brothers began hosting an annual 3-day golf retreat at their cabins on Sand Lake,WI and nearby golf courses in NW Wisconsin. We grew in numbers every year and averaged 32--40 guys every summer. Our retreat was held every year till we took took 2 summers off for Covid, and we sadly wrapped up the Wisconsin retreat with our final 4-man scramble at Voyager Village in Danbury,WI in August 2022. Roger, Bruce Jacobs, and Barry Pickert (the Iowa contingent) decided to rebirth our event this summer 2025 in the Dubuque / Galena area.
the fellowship...
Along with the beauty and variety of the golf locations and matches, what makes our golf retreat special is the Christian fellowship we share and the brotherhood that bonds us in Christ. The spirit of competition in close matches is enhanced by the friendships that grow at the retreat. Guys of all skill levels find themselves enjoying the game and the fellowship. Many guys find the retreat to be a spiritual boost to their faith, and some have even come to know the Lord through the relationships with other men at the retreat. We know of no other event like this with the combination of golf, fellowship, competition, prizes, and spiritual growth. It is our mission to provide an exceptional 3 days of golf and Christian fellowship that participants will look forward to every summer!
the golf...
There is nothing like the great game of golf! And when you get away for 3 glorious days playing some of the best golf courses in the midwest along with guys who love the Lord and the game, there is nothing else quite like this getaway experience. The courses we will play in Dubuque and Galena have some awesome views and unique settings. (see links to the courses on the Itinerary page) The matches we play are usually very competitive and teams are matched according to similar individual or team handicap. Duffers, scratch golfers, and everyone in between will enjoy these games and find that their every shot, even if they're not playing well, makes a difference in the final outcome. 3 of the 4 rounds we play are team games. It makes for great fun, fellowship, and friendship. Golf courses are only a few minutes from the Stoney Creek Inn in Galena and all have a driving range and practice green.
